Bunnies and rabbits are always around, but it seems as we approach the Easter season they come out of hiding and are everywhere we look. When the Easter season starts, everywhere you turn you will see are toys, chocolates, and candies all shaped like bunnies and rabbits. It seems like they are everywhere you look and you can't get away from them!

The team here at The Complete Basketcase have firsthand experience with just how popular bunnies are during the Easter season. After all, the Golden Lindt Chocolate Bunny is one of the most popular and yummiest Easter chocolates found in our Easter baskets. And who can blame people for liking this basket add-on, as it is made out of some of the finest chocolate in the world!

We just automatically associate bunnies/rabbits with Easter and have never really given it much thought, until now. In anticipation of the upcoming Easter season, we thought we would share with you a brief history of the Easter Bunny and take a closer look at that favoured Lindt Chocolate Bunny that is so popular when people order our Easter hampers.

Brief History of the Easter Bunny

There are several different opinions on how the Easter Bunny came to be. The most popular theory is the Easter Bunny was part of a folktale that was told to children at the start Eastertide, or the beginning of spring.

Children were told the Easter Bunny would be watching – much like Santa Claus – and determine if they were good or bad. If they were good, they were given toys, candies, and Easter gift baskets.

There is no exact date for when the Easter Bunny tradition began, but some believe it started in the 1600s. That is when the first mention of the Easter Bunny can be found.

The Adorable Story Behind the Lindt Chocolate Bunny

It may seem like the Lindt Chocolate Bunny has been around for a long, long time, but in reality is has only been a part of the Easter holiday since 1952. That was when it was created by a chocolatier for his son.

One morning, the chocolatier's son was looking out a window and spotted a cute bunny in the yard. The son fell in love with the bunny, but before he knew it the bunny ran – or in this case hopped - away. The minute the bunny disappeared, the son was extremely upset. That was when the chocolatier had an idea – make a chocolate version of the bunny.

When the chocolate bunny was created, the chocolatier had it wrapped in beautiful gold foil and a tiny little bell was placed around its neck. Why was there a bell placed around the bunny's neck? In an effort to help children find it. When the bunny would hop away, children would be able to find him! You won’t have to look too far to find the Lindt chocolate bunny in our ‘Find the bunny Easter box’ hamper. Hiding within this stunning gift box amongst 60 mini Easter eggs is a delicious Lindt bunny just waiting to be eaten!
